Content Guidelines
Effective: 2026-05-05 Last updated: 2026-05-05
These guidelines describe how No Notes sources, edits, and publishes the cases you hear in the app — and what you can expect from us in return. They apply to every case in the catalog, no exceptions. Contact: report@nonotes.app.
1. What you are listening to
Every case in No Notes is a dramatized, anonymized adaptation of public internet drama — primarily public Reddit posts in subreddits like r/AmItheAsshole and similar verdict communities. We do not republish source posts. We rewrite, anonymize, voice-act, and score them for narrative pacing.
You are not hearing a real person's voice. You are not hearing the original wording. You are hearing a verdict-voice adaptation of a public story.
2. Our voices are AI
The voices you hear — Quinn, Mira, Sage, Rachel, Sloane Madison — are AI text-to-speech personas. They are not real people. They do not have opinions outside the script. They do not exist outside the app. We chose this approach so no real human's identity becomes the brand of someone else's drama.
3. How we anonymize
Before any case ships, we run it through aggressive PII redaction. The targets:
- Real names — every named person becomes a pseudonym.
- Distinctive locations — specific addresses, workplaces, schools become generalized.
- Identifying events — unique events that could reverse-identify a person are softened or removed.
- Distinctive turns of phrase — verbal fingerprints are rewritten.
- Original posters' usernames — never appear in our output.
Our internal target is ≥95% PII recall per case, verified by a two-person editorial pass. If anonymization confidence is low on any specific detail, the case is held until it can be fixed or dropped.
We are not perfect. If you believe a published case identifies a real person, email report@nonotes.app with the case ID and we will pull it within 24 hours pending review.
4. Editorial gate — every case, two humans
No case ships live without two-person editorial sign-off. The gate checks 14 items, including:
- PII recall ≥ 95%.
- No real names anywhere — audio, transcript, copy, share assets, push notification body.
- "Dramatized / anonymized" disclaimer present in the case detail UI.
- Voice register holds — opinionated and warm, not cruel; no mocking, no punching down.
- Power-dynamics aware framing — when a case touches mental health, addiction, abuse, or vulnerability, the verdict still comes, but the framing acknowledges weight.
- Case selection is drama-genuine, not outrage-maximizing.
- Crisis-content sidebar is present on cases that touch suicide, self-harm, severe abuse, or acute mental health (see §6 below).
- Source is a public post, anonymized and voice-acted — never a direct republish.
- Forbidden TTS artifacts scrubbed.
- Kill-switch operational and tested.
- Apple Guideline 1.2 baseline — block, mute, and report all reachable in two taps from any case.
- EULA acceptance gate verified.
- Reddit ToS posture confirmed.
- Case detail page renders the disclaimer and crisis resources where applicable.
The 14-item checklist lives in our internal BRAND-LOCK.md and is referenced in every shipping commit.
5. What we will not ship
- No real names — in any form, in any field.
- No identifying details that could reverse-engineer to a specific person.
- No mocking of vulnerable people. Mental health, addiction, abuse, minors, and protected classes get automatic tone-de-escalation. The verdict still comes; the framing acknowledges weight.
- No engagement bait — we do not select or frame a case to maximize outrage at the expense of accuracy.
- No dunking, no sneering. Verdict-voice is opinionated, not cruel.
- No direct republishes of source text. Reddit posts are public but their authors retain a privacy claim against pure rebroadcast. Our adaptations are transformative.
6. Crisis content
When a case touches suicide, self-harm, severe abuse, or acute mental health, the case detail page surfaces resources before audio plays:
- 988 — US Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, call or text.
- 741741 — Crisis Text Line. Text HOME.
- A reminder that the Service is entertainment, not therapy.
If you are outside the US, please consult your local emergency services. We are working on regional resource localization. [VERIFY: legal review for non-US crisis resource accuracy]
7. Reporting and removal
Every case has a report button reachable in two taps. Reports are anonymous. A case that receives three independent reports is auto-hidden and re-reviewed. A re-reviewed case either ships back live with documentation or is permanently removed.
You can also report a specific case directly to us at report@nonotes.app with the case ID. We respond within 5 business days. Urgent reports — where you believe a case identifies a real person — get pulled within 24 hours pending review.
8. Block and mute
You can block any user you encounter in any social surface in two taps. Blocked users cannot see your votes, saves, or shared cards, and you will not see theirs.
9. Original posters
We treat the original authors of public posts as people, not source material. We do not name them, do not link to them, and ask that you do not attempt to identify or contact them based on cases you hear in the app. If you are a poster who recognizes your story and wants it removed, email report@nonotes.app and we will pull the case within 24 hours, no questions asked.
10. Submitting your own story
User-submitted cases are not part of v1.0. If we add this feature, it will appear here with its own review and consent process before going live.
